Out of Home Care Services

Out of Home Care Services include:

Foster Care Academy—AHTL is licensed child placing organization by the State of Wisconsin. The Foster Care Academy Team provides case management and care coordination for children placed in our care. Advocates partners with counties across the state to provide stable, loving homes to children in need of care.

SHARE Academy—Advocates partners with Marinette County, WI to operate a Group Home that is shift staffed 24/7/365, we call it SHARE Academy, for our core values.

These individuals are Caregiver Background and Safe Home approved, participate in regular internal training, and have access to 24/7 support through Advocates Urgent Response Team. Some providers are community members and some are Advocates team members. Advocates also operates a respite home in the Green Bay area that providers can use to better serve clients that need last minute or emergency care.

Pre-placement Visits—an opportunity for child and family(ies) to interact and learn valuable information like routines and family dynamics.

Thinking about becoming a foster parent? It may sound intimidating; that's why Advocates builds a supportive village around each foster family to help support them through the unique needs of children placed in our care. Foster parents and Respite Providers are also trained to recognize and address some of the most common challenges our kids bring. It is this teamwork philosophy that makes the difference.

Foster Parenting isn’t just for families though! Almost anyone can become a foster parent.

Advocates will take the time to get to know you, resolve barriers and address concerns throughout the application process. When you decide to move forward with becoming a foster parent, you simply provide some basic information; our team is with you throughout the application and licensing process.

  • Once you’ve submitted some basic information, you will meet your licensing specialist and are scheduled for a home visit*. Sounds like a lot, right? The home visit is just to get an idea of your home's layout, number of beds and to confirm basic safety precautions are met. There is no right or wrong here. We are looking for all types of people and families! Foster Parents are people just like you and me – totally put together some days, dirty dishes in the sink on others, and toothpaste on bathroom mirrors on most. That's okay! More important is that you want to make a difference - that's why you're reading this!
  • After the initial home visit is complete, you are enrolled in some trainings to get you prepared. These trainings take around 30 hours over the course of a few weeks and are scheduled at your convenience; in person or virtual. The whole process takes around 8-12 weeks. There are typically 3-6 home visits, total, depending on the make-up of your home and your availability to meet with your licensing specialist.
  • Next your application is finalized and sent to the state for review, and then you become a licensed Foster Parent! Are you ready to change some lives?
  • Through the entire process, Advocates is getting to know you and your family so we can connect you with kids that will mesh well with your family and lifestyle. During this time, you are preparing to welcome a child. Sometimes it takes a few tries to match up a child with a foster family – we are there with you and your kiddo every step of the way.

The most important quality of an Advocates Foster Family is the willingness to work with a team of care providers, social workers and biological family to help the youth and family unit be the best they can be!
